Nunavut Professional Improvement Committee (NPIC):

The NPIC establishes all of the policies and procedures dealing with professional development matters involving NTA members. This committee consists of two NTA members and two NTA members; they work with the PI Coordinator and the PD Funds Administrator to ensure that funding set aside for professional development activities is utilized according to the criteria established under the Collective Agreement.

The NPIC logo reflects that this is a partnership between the NTA and the GN Department of Education.

Professional Development

Aside from protecting its members, the NTA is very active in promoting and encouraging professional improvement. There are many opportunities for NTA members to access funding to support professional improvement activities. With Article 16 of the Collective Agreement, all NTA members are eligible to apply for short-term assistance to complete certificate, non-certificate, and university courses. As well, each NTA member is entitled to five professional improvement days in an academic year.

Through the Nunavut Professional Improvement Committee, on which two NTA members sit, members have the resources of a Professional Improvement Coordinator, Professional Improvement Development Officer, and Professional Development Fund Administrator.

Each school has a Professional Development Liaison who acts as a resource person for professional Development. Please see the PD Liaison at your school, or call the NTA PI Coordinator, for specific details, regulations, and limitations on what you can access in regards to professional Development. You can access the latetest version of the PD Resource Book below.  Each school and PD Liaison should have a print copy of this book.

PD Resource Book (PDF)  ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ

(The PD Resource Book has been designed to provide all of the current information on funding programs that support NTA members with their Professional Development. It includes all of the background policies and procedures as well as the appropriate application forms to be used. Because this document is quite large, it has been broken down into eleven distinct sections; all are available for download in PDF format. If you are looking for information on a specific program and/or the application forms for that program please go to that section of the website for quicker and easier access to the information NOTE:  Print versions of the resource are available at each school.  See the PD Liaison at your school for its location.)
